For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light. – Ephesians 5:8
Darkness… empty, lonely, and void… darkness. Everyone has been through a difficult time in their life or a period of darkness, but not everyone has an easy time experiencing the deliverance from the power of darkness.
Some people become consumed by it, and cannot think of anything else, let alone a way to leave their darkness behind. I know I have experienced this before, especially feeling hopeless about ever climbing out of the darkness that shadowed my life.
Reaching Out to God
The important thing to remember is this: even during those times of darkness God is with you.
Reach out to him and he will give you deliverance from the power of darkness.
God does not want you to live in darkness and doesn’t believe that you are a son or daughter of darkness. He knows that we are all children of light and is trying to show this to you.
In 1 Thessalonians 5:4-5 it states “But you, brothers and sisters, are not in darkness so that this day should surprise you like a thief. You are all children of the light and children of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness”.
Instead, God shows up that it is His light that shines through the darkness. It is His light that is seen through us. It is His light that will provide deliverance from the power of darkness holding us hostage.
God Conquers the Darkness
The Living Bible (TLB) translation of 2 Corinthians 4:6 is a great way to understand how God conquers darkness by helping us understand His light. For God, who said, “Let there be light in the darkness,” has made us understand that it is the brightness of His glory that is seen in the face of Jesus Christ. -2 Corinthians 4:6
It is only through God’s light that we can experience deliverance from the power of darkness.
How God Views Us
The first verse listed in this post is Ephesians 5:8. Think about this statement. “For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord”.
This is how God views you.
Even though you may think you are part of the darkness that you experience, you are not in the eyes of God. God will give you deliverance from the power of darkness.
Chance or Destined Deliverance?
Have you ever had a moment of total despair but then someone says hello or a stranger does something nice for you? Somehow you experiences a slight feeling like the darkness might not last forever.
That is one of the small ways that God is showing you that deliverance from the power of darkness is not only a possibility but it will happen. Keep your faith in Him and His light and you will find relief from the darkness.
No matter how small and trapped you may feel, you are a child of the Light and He will not leave you in the darkness. He will be with you every second until you are delivered back into the light.
