The Catechism of the Catholic Church is considered as a “reference text” mainly aimed to fulfill the main mission, believed by the Catholics, which is save guarding the faith. It is a testimony of the Church’s faith and of catholic doctrine, demonstrated and brought to light by the Church’s Magisterium, the Sacred Scripture, and the Apostolic Tradition.
The name Catechesis was the result of efforts made by the church to make teachers of Faith disciples. So that man believed that God had a son, Jesus and that believing might lead to them having a life devoted to him. It was formed to instruct and to teach them, as a result of building Christ’s body.
“Catechesis is an education in the faith of children, young people and adults which include especially the teaching of Christian doctrine with a view to initiating the hearers into the fullness of Christian life.”
Catechism of the Catholic Church, is faith! After the restitution of the Liturgy and the new arrangement of the canon law of Latin Church and Oriental Catholic Churches, this catechism makes an immensely important contribution to recommencing the whole life of the Church, just as desired and initiated by the Second Vatican Council. The point in the book focuses mainly on morals and faith.
This catechism brings forth an organic blend of all the crucial and major contents of the Catholic doctrine regarding the two, the faith and the moralities, in light of the Church’s Tradition also brought to attention by the Second Vatican Council. The principal sources of it are the Magisterium, the Ancestors of the Ecclesiastical, the Sacred Scriptures, and the liturgy.
The main purpose of it is to serve;
“As a point of reference for the catechisms or compendia that are composed in the various countries”.
Only those responsibility of catechesis, such as the bishops, the Church’s preachers as well as the educators of faith, it’s intended for. It’s provided as a tool to fulfill their duty of educating interested People. It is also considered useful to be read by a Christian faithful.
Magisterium in its authentic form, the living tradition in the church and what the sacred scripture teaches are presented in the book of catechism. This ensures that a better knowledge of the Christian mystery can be given and also the faith of the People of God could be revived. It is a responsibility of catechists to keep the faith alive through the people and it should be as such that it helps illuminate the light of faith in them. The aim and intended readers of the book catechisms are the educators of Faith.
